12 EXPERT TECHNIQUES
To fully understand the principle of styling , remember that your hair is malleable when it is wet or heated . It therefore takes its final shape once it is dry and cool.
Technique 1
The broadcaster
To achieve a beautiful curly effect, use a shampoo specially designed for curly hair. If you need hydration, use a conditioner from the same range of products for curly hair.
There are many styling products for curly hair on the market, including curl activators that can strengthen weak curls. Layering plays a very important role in creating a beautiful hairstyle. Make sure you get the right hairstyle.
Step 1:
On well-dried hair, apply a generous amount of mousse or your curl product, head down, scrunching your hair with your fingers from root to tip. Make sure to apply the product evenly throughout your hair.
Step 2:
Using a hairdryer and diffuser, start drying from the head down. Lift the roots with your fingers, scrunching the hair intermittently with light movements.
It is important to keep the head facing the diffuser to achieve maximum volume. For less volume, place the head facing away from the diffuser.
Technique 2
The fringe
Cutting your own bangs can quickly turn into a disaster. There are a few important points to consider before you begin cutting them. First, you need to determine the natural fall (growth) of your bangs and be careful of spikes (rosettes).
Next, determine the desired thickness and length. Drying your bangs is just as important as cutting them. The process suggested here will make styling your bangs easier, even with unruly hair. Get long scissors and a blow dryer with an attachment.
Step 1:
After wetting your hair (only wet the bangs if your hair is already styled), separate the bangs. Start at a point at the root of your hair on the top of your head and work your way down to form a V, determining the desired width. It is important to follow the natural movement of your hair.
Step 2:
Without applying tension, bring the hair to be cut towards the middle of the nose.
Step 3:
In front of a mirror, cut the bangs in one go below the eyebrow line using long scissors. Make sure to cut slightly longer than the desired length, as the hair will expand when it dries and it will then be easier to adjust the length. This will give you slightly rounded bangs.
Step 4:
Using a comb, blow-dry the roots of your bangs, swaying from left to right. This technique is ideal for combating flyaways and unruly bangs. Finish drying the ends with a round brush.
Step 5:
If desired, adjust the cut of the corners of the bangs, taking care to always cut the hair from the center of the face outward to avoid mistakes. It's best to use long scissors, as they will allow you to cut straight. Use the hollow of your nose as a support. Your scissors should be stable and not hanging.

The styling
To achieve a beautiful blowout, it's important to use the right tools and products for your hair type. Note that the steps will be the same for short hair. To fully understand the principle of blowout, remember that your hair is malleable when it's wet or heated. It only takes its final shape once it's dry and completely cool, hence the importance of drying your hair thoroughly and waiting until it's completely cool before considering the blowout complete.
Step 1:
Detangle hair well and wring it out, then apply the styling product, combing it through to distribute it evenly from root to tip.
Always use the blow dryer with the attachment, as this will help increase shine and distribute heat evenly. Blow-dry from the roots against the grain with a paddle brush to add volume.
Choose the right brush for the volume you want. A brush that's too big could prevent you from reaching the roots.
Step 2:
If you have bangs, start by drying them. Clip the top of your head, then separate the bottom section in two. Then, start styling from roots to ends. Continue to style the rest of your hair in small sections.
Step 3:
To create a rounded finish, wrap the section around the brush while blow-drying on high heat, then let the section cool while holding the brush in position. You can also use the cool setting on your dryer. Gently unwind the brush when the section has cooled.
I The permanent
A perm is a great way to change your hair texture, but it's important to know a few rules before you start using it. First and foremost, you should do a porosity test to make sure your hair is healthy enough to undergo such a chemical transformation. Indeed, if you have highlights, if your hair has already been bleached, straightened, or if it has undergone any other strong chemical treatment, a perm could be risky and even dangerous for your hair.
Much like hair bleach, a perm is one of the most chemical transformations your hair can undergo. It completely changes its internal structure.
Assess your hair's needs and curl type. Do you need texture or a very firm curl? More volume or less? The choice of rollers is very important, as is the wrapping method.
You can even use two sizes of rollers arranged alternately for a more natural effect, or distributed in different areas according to your needs.
The perm is applied to damp hair. It's important to towel-dry it thoroughly beforehand. It's best to use a gentle, non-treatment shampoo. Do not rub the scalp or just lightly touch it to prevent irritation.
It is very important to follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Don't forget to neutralize your hair at the end with the product intended for this process and wait 48 hours after the perm before washing your hair. Saturate your hair well and don't exceed the processing time: the result could be catastrophic. Also, avoid streaks on your face.

Creping
To increase the volume of your hair, you need a proper cut and products designed for this purpose, especially shampoos. The type of brush is also important, but there has always been one foolproof technique for adding volume: backcombing.
Step 1:
It's important to follow the styling motion to maintain the style. Lift a section of hair and hold it firmly between your fingers on top of your head.
Step 2:
Using a fine-toothed comb, begin backcombing from the ends to the roots in one gentle, light motion, always holding the ends and maintaining tension on the hair.
Step 3:
After backcombing the desired sections, use a fine-toothed comb or brush to buff the surface of the backcombed section. For a firmer backcomb, spray the base of the backcomb with hairspray before buffing.
I Technique 5
Extension cords
There are several methods for attaching hair extensions, including glue and resins. These semi-permanent processes (lasting from a few weeks to a few months) are used only by hair professionals. These techniques, generally expensive, involve gluing small strands of hair to the roots, which gives a natural effect.
As for you, you can wash and dry your extensions just like real hair. To avoid damaging your hair, avoid getting extensions more than twice in a year. The weight you add to your scalp and the extra tension you put on your hair roots can be damaging in the long run and lead to significant hair loss. To avoid damaging your hair, avoid getting semi-permanent extensions more than twice a year.
It is also possible to obtain extensions by sewing the hair onto a braided strand very close to the scalp. This semi-permanent technique, while very effective, can cause discomfort for the first few days.
Also worth mentioning are hairpiece-style extensions that you can remove and reapply as you wish. Made to measure, they are attached with small clips to a strip of hair near your scalp.
They don't damage your hair, adhere effectively, can be applied in minutes, and if they're made from real hair, you can use them for a long time and change their color as you wish. You can also flat iron them to match your hair. You can buy real hair strips in specialty stores. Here's how to make and install them yourself at home.
Step 1:
Make a first separation from one ear to the other at the nape of the neck.
Step 2:
Measure the desired length, leaving 2 cm of slack on each side of the head to prevent the extensions from sticking out at the sides. Double this measurement to double the thickness of the extensions.
Step 3:
Cut the extensions, then sew them together with upholstery or waterproof thread. The thread should be strong. Then, sew the barrettes to the ends.
Step 4:
Make a second parting from temple to temple at eyebrow height. Measure the extensions from the front of the hair from ear to ear, stopping roughly at the front of the ear, depending on your facial features. Then, double your measurement as in step 1. Sew the sections together and add barrettes to the ends. If necessary, barrettes can be added in the middle for extra strength. You can create additional sections as needed to add thickness to your hair.
Step 5:
If you need to color your extensions, choose a color that matches your hair and apply it to the extensions, resting them on a piece of aluminum foil.
Step 6:
To apply the extensions, start by lightly backcombing your hair. Then secure the extensions by opening the clips to insert them into the backcombed section, then closing the clips. Repeat this process.
I Technique 6
The ponytail
Step 1:
You will need two hair clips and an elastic band.
Step 2:
Insert the two hair clips into the elastic.
Step 3:
Gather your hair into a ponytail.
Step 4:
Insert the first hair clip at the base of the ponytail, holding the hair in place with one hand.
Step 5:
Wrap the other end of the elastic around the ponytail. When you feel the elastic is taut, insert the other clip into the base of the ponytail, pushing it down as far as it will go. This ponytail is very strong, and the elastic won't pull your hair when you undo it.
I Technique 7
Temporary extensions with false eyelash glue
This method is used to wear colored highlights for an evening out. Use waterproof eyelash glue, as it will better withstand scalp perspiration.
Step 1
Choose a contrasting hair color. Make a straight, horizontal parting 2 to 5 cm wide. Take a strip of natural or synthetic hair that is slightly narrower than the width of the parting.
Step 2
Apply the waterproof false eyelash glue to your scalp. Then, apply glue to the fabric strip of your extension and press glue onto glue.
Step 3
Keep the hair pressed and blow-dry on cool air. The glue will become transparent when completely dry. Wait about ten minutes before combing. Use baby oil to loosen the extensions.
I Technique 8
The evening hairstyle (twist)
Step 1:
Part from ear to ear and make a side ponytail.
Step 2:
Bring the elastic down the middle of the ponytail.
Step 3:
Take the ponytail, twist it upwards, as tightly as possible, then insert the hair clips into the fold to hide them.
Step 4:
Make a diagonal parting on both sides of the head from the temples.
Step 5:
Twist the side sections around themselves and tuck them under the back of the bun. Secure the sections with hair clips. Repeat with the other side.
Step 6:
Backcomb the top section using a backcombing brush or a fine-toothed comb. Buff the section, twist the tip of the section forward, wrap it around itself, and secure it.
I Technique 9
Evening hairstyle (Victoria braid)
Step 1:
Braid the hair on the side of the head and secure the ends with an elastic band.
Step 2:
Open the braid slightly with your fingers to create a loose braid.
Step 3:
Firmly grasp a small strand by the tip, in the center of the braid, while holding the elastic.
Step 4:
Push the elastic upwards while holding the small section of hair, which will bring the braid close to your scalp. This will create a bun-like shape with a long center section.
Step 5:
Secure the bun with hair clips.
Step 6:
Secure the central strand by wrapping it around the bun.
I Technique 10
Evening hairstyle (noches)
Step 1:
Make a parting from ear to ear on top of your head. Clip the sides of your head together with clips.
Step 2:
Part the back section into a smile, make a ponytail, and then secure it with a fabric elastic.
Step 3:
Separate a second section at the back, still in a smile, and secure it with a fabric elastic to create three ponytails.
Step 4:
Take a section of the middle ponytail and loosely wrap it around itself. Grab a small section of hair from the middle of this section and slide the rest of the hair up along the middle section. Secure with a hair clip in a color that matches your hair as closely as possible. Continue this process with all three ponytails.
Step 5:
Take the side sections and do the same, then reattach to the back.
Step 6:
Backcomb the top section using a backcombing brush or comb, buff it, twist it once, then pin it back.
I Technique 11
The Satine hairstyle
This hairstyle pairs well with evening wear or can be paired with naturally curly hair to add texture.
Step 1:
Use metal-free fabric elastics. Take a section of hair and tie the elastic around it. Pull the hair slightly out of the elastic, working from the tips to the roots. Stretch the elastic by pulling on both ends.
Step 2:
Spray hairspray on the section and heat it with the flat iron. Let it cool and remove the elastic. Repeat around the face.
I Technique 12
Marie-Yan's hairstyle
Step 1:
Take a section of hair and spray it with hairspray. Wrap it around your finger, hold the shape, and remove your finger.
Step 2:
Heat with the flat iron, rotating the iron around the strand evenly.
Step 3:
Let cool, holding the shape with a hair clip, and repeat all over the head.
Step 4:
Loosen the curls. Note that the larger the strands, the looser the curls will be. Conversely, the smaller the strands, the more frizzy the curls will be. Take the strands randomly from all over your head.
